We've been helping to manage and deliver a nighttime economy strategy in Edmonton, Alberta, since October 2023. We have been performing extensive research into the evening and nighttime economy to help inform our strategy report.

In June of this year, City Council directed the City of Edmonton Administration to “collaborate with Explore Edmonton to develop a nighttime economy strategy and return to Committee with a report, including an evaluation framework with outcomes and performance measures.” This report has been scheduled for November 29, 2023. 

As such, the City of Edmonton and Explore Edmonton are partnering to develop this strategy and have contracted us (Night Time Economy Solutions) to help with its creation.

The Review

We will present Explore Edmonton and the City of Edmonton with a nighttime economy strategy from the research conducted.

This research includes:

• Consumer and employee surveys and focus groups.

• In-depth research into federal, provincial and municipal trends in the nighttime economy space.

• Stakeholder interviews and workshops.

• One-to-one interviews with critical voices in the evening and night-time economy

• An overnight audit to review Edmonton at night from a policy, operational, user and place management perspective. 

This work has been supported by creating a Nighttime Economy Steering Committee where core partners identified in the research will work closely together to understand what is working well and what could be improved in Edmonton at night (from 5 pm onwards), to provide a better experience for all.
